The Geminids are considered to be one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year, with the possibility of sighting around 120 meteors per hour, at its peak, which is Thursday Dec.13th. Gather with Safari Park Education Staff, Omaha’s Astronomical Society Members and Wildlife Photographer, Mike Benkis, as we experience nature’s fireworks in the sky, learn about astronomy, discover what a meteor shower is and how we can best photograph the night sky.
Pre-Registration and payment in advance is required, cost $10 for Wildlife Safari Park members and $13 for non-members. Open to all ages. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars and portable telescopes. However, larger telescopes will be available for viewing the night sky. The event will be outside, so bring anything that will help make you comfortable and warm — coats, hats, mittens, blankets, bag chairs, pillows, and warm beverages. Don’t forget your camera.
