Discover and practice adventurous outdoor skills, such as beginning camping, nature photography, citizen science, nature art and astronomy.
These two-hour classes cost $10 for Wildlife Safari Park members and $13 for non-members. Open to all ages. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies are provided with the exception of cameras.
Pre-registration is required. Offered to ages 4 or older unless noted otherwise.
Moon Gazing - Take advantage of the winter skies and the full moon in February at Wildlife Safari Park. Gather with Safari Park Education Staff and Omaha's Astronomical Society Members as we learn more about our big beautiful moon.
Pre-registration and payment is advance is required. Cost is $10/members and $13/non-members. Open to all ages. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Guests are welcome to bring their own binoculars and portable telescopes. However, larger telescopes will be available for viewing the night sky. The event will be outside, so bring anything that will help make you comfortable and warm — coats, hats, mittens, blankets, bag chairs, pillows, and warm beverages (non-alcoholic).
Bumblebee Watch - a Citizen Science Project: Families can learn how important bumblebees (and bees in general) are to Nebraska and the world. Come walk our prairies, observe our bees, experience data collection and learn what you can do in your own backyards to help bees.
This Citizen Science program will introduce The Great Sunflower Project as a way that anyone can help bees in their own backyards.
Explore Your Backyard Wilderness: A Citizen Science Program - Are you interested in doing what you can to help protect the natural world around you? Would you like to participate in citizen science projects in the comforts of your home or right outside your back door? Join us as we introduce you to invaluable citizen science projects that provide a deeper understanding of the world around us. Together, we will be inspired to think about how the environment is influenced by human activities, how species depend on one another for survival, the seasonal ecosystem changes in nature and what we can do to protect our Backyard Wilderness.
Family Bird Watching - Celebrate Urban Birds: A Citizen Science Program - Do you want to learn about birds in your neighborhood? Want to learn to be able to know the difference between a House Finch and a House Sparrow? Then this is the beginner’s class for you. A Citizen Science program designed with the NEW birder in mind by The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Celebrate Urban Birds helps people of all ages learn about birds. This class will help you learn how and where to observe as well as giving you data sheets to complete to help The Cornell Lab of Ornithology data collect in our area.
4C Kick-Off (Clean Creeks Conservation Crew): A Citizen Science Program - Come learn about what you can do to keep our ponds, lakes, and creeks clean. We'll be putting on boots and waders and joining our water friends so get ready to experience Nebraska from the shores!
Sun Set on the Prairie - Adult Only Photography (18 years and older): Grab your cameras to capture the last golden rays of the day as they illuminate the prairie landscape and cast stunning silhouettes onour Nebraska Wildlife.
Rise and Shine Early Morning - Adult Only Photography (18 years and older): Grab your coffee and your cameras for early morning photography. The Wildlife Safari Park will open early for pre-registered photographers that wish to capture the perfect shot during "The Golden Hour".
Knitting and Nature:
Families Dig Fossils: The family that digs together .... gets their hands muddy! Come and join Education Staff as we examine the limestone quarry that we know as Wildlife Safari Park.
National Nature Photography Day - Family Photography: Bring out your cameras and join our professional photographer as we wander around the park and experience nature in Nebraska!
All About Monarch Butterflies - Citizen Science for Adults 18 years and older: This special class is for adults 18 years and older to come and learn about Monarch Butterflies and how to make a place for them in your own backyard.
Art on the Prairie - Sketching & Journaling: With pencil and journal in hand, we will uncover the peace and tranquility that the outdoors offers and create a stronger connection to the natural world.
Bugs & Blooms Macro Photography Shoot - Family Photography: This family photography session will focus on our insect friends and work with how to get up close and personnal with the flowers and plants they love.
Safari Park - Fantastic Beasts:
Art on the Plains - Bison Overlook: Sketching, drawing, painting and more overlooking our Bison exhibit.
Small Animals - Family Photography: This family photography session will focus on small birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and mammals. Guests will get a chance to enter the park before it opens and experience an early morning hush of the prairie.
Family Prairie Walk: Put on your walking shoes and join us as we wander around our prairie and show you some wonderful plants and animals that call this magical place their home.
Bring on the Bats!: This special experience will take guests into the park after hours and show ways that bats are benefical to Nebraska and what you can do the help protect them.
Family Creek Walking: Bring your Wellies and get ready to walk the creek. Guest can expect to get wet!
Nurture your young child's love for wildlife and the great outdoors with Wildlife Safari Park's newest Early Learning Kids Klub (E.L.K. Klub). The E.L.K.Klub uses the Park as a classroom to encourage young children ages 3 to 4 years old to investigate, play, and learn about Nebraska native wildlife through hands-on activities and exploration.
Programs are for children ages 3-4 years old. All classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at our Education Base Camp near Wolf Woods and our Pawnee Creek Trailhead Parking Lot. Pre-registration and payment of $13 per child per session is required. An adult must accompany the participant. The registration cost covers one adult and one child. Prices reflect the discount member rate.
Become a wildlife ranger and join us on a North American expedition. Start the excursion travailing from the Zoo to Wildlife Safari Park. Learn about animal conservation and gain field work experience. End the day by winding though bison plains and then head back to the Zoo. Campers will meet at the Zoo and be transferred to Wildlife Safari Park near Ashland, Neb. via bus. Camp starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $85 per camp (unless otherwise noted) for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and Wildlife Safari Park members and $90 for nonmembers. For ages 9-11 (unless otherwise noted) and occur rain or shine.
