Summer Wildlife Ranger Day Camps

    

Become a wildlife ranger and join us on a North American expedition. Start the excursion travailing from the Zoo to Wildlife Safari Park.  Learn about animal conservation and gain field work experience. End the day by winding though bison plains and then head back to the Zoo. Campers will meet at the Zoo and be transferred to Wildlife Safari Park near Ashland, Neb. via bus. Camp starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Cost is $75 per camp (unless otherwise noted) for Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium members and Wildlife Safari Park members and $80 for non-members. For ages 9-11 (unless otherwise noted) and occur rain or shine.

Family Safari Explorers

Discover and practice adventurous outdoor skills, such as beginning camping, nature photography, citizen science, nature art and astronomy. 

These two-hour classes cost $10 for Wildlife Safari Park members and $13 for non-members (*unless otherwise noted).  Open to all ages. Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Supplies are provided with the exception of cameras. 

Pre-registration is required. Offered to ages 4 or older unless noted otherwise.

Saturday, May 23 - Songbird Migration & Blind Photography (18 yrs and old only)

When the songbirds migrate through Nebraska do you feel like you are proficient enough to take good photographs?  Our photographer, Mike Benkis will present tips on how work the blind, position yourself so not to disturb the flock, and tips on waiting for the perfect photo.  We'll have a blind set-up in our own Crane Meadow to practice. 
 
Cost:  $25 per person member price / $30 per person non-member price (18 years old and older only)
Time: 8:00 am to 10:00 am - Bring your Coffee and join us before the Park Opens!

Friday, June 5 - Telescope & Prairie Skies - The Strawberry Moon

The last full moon in June is known as the "Strawberry Moon" or "Rose Moon" come see why.  We'll have our telescopes out so feel free to bring yours if you have one.  Our Education Department will have fun activities for us to learn more interesting facts about the moon and some strawberry snacks for us to sample.  It is the Strawberry Moon after all!
 
Cost:  $10 Members / $13 Non-Members
Time: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Saturday, June 6 - March for Monarchs (A Family Fun Walk)

Put on your walking shoes and March for Monarchs at Wildlife Safari Park.  Dress as your favorite butterfly and “Migrate” around the Park's One mile trail system learning about what it is like to be a monarch butterfly. After your walk join us at the exhibition area and learn more Monarch facts and then stay for Wildlife Safari Park Member Days (June 6 & June 7)
 
Bring a refillable water bottle with you and help reduce waste in Nebraska. All ages welcome with kids 2 years old and under free. Trails are mulch and dirt covered.  
 
*Proceeds go to Wildlife Safari Park Education Program and Monarch Conservation in Nebraska.
 
Cost: $10 members  / $15 non-members  / $20 Day of Event
Time: 8:00 am walk start time.  Gates open at 7:00 am into Wildlife Safari Park

Sunday, July 5 - Telescope & Prairie Skies - Buck Moon   

The Buck Moon is the Full Moon for the month of July as it recognizes the time of year that new antlers emerge from male deer and we start to see the telltale signs of summer. 
We'll have our telescopes out so feel free to bring yours if you have one. Our Education Department will have fun activities for us to learn more interesting facts about the moon and some summer snacks for us to sample.  It may be time astronaut ice cream or moon pies!

Sunday, July 12 - Bingo with Bison: A Family Program

 
Summertime is for summer games and our Bison like Bingo! Join our Education Staff on the Bison Overlook as we set-up Bingo tables and call out numbers for unique bison prizes.

Saturday, August 15 - Mammals in the Morning Photography (18 yrs and old only)

"He who gets up early achieves more" - especially when photographing MAMMALS! Our photographer, Mike Benkis will present tips when taking photographs in the wild, early morning glare, and more.

Sunday, September 13 - Grandparents Day Barnyard Breakfast

Celebrate Grandparents Day in the Hands-On-Corral.  Join our Education Staff and Docents as we serve up a "Barynard" Breakfast with Coffee/Tea/Juice, Doughnuts, and some straw thrown in.  We'll be recognizing our Grandparents and making crafts in their honor.  
 
Cost:  $10 Members / $13 Non-Members

Sunday, September 13 - Public Monarch Tagging

Join our Education Staff and Docents as we live capture our migrating monarchs as they flutter across the prairie. We will be tagging them for their journey to Mexico so Conservation Biologists can monitor their migration patterns. Come participate in Citizen Science!
 
*No registration is necessary.  Event is free with membership to Wildlife Safari Park or paid admission.

Sunday, October 18 - Howl-O-Wen Safari: Early Childhood Day  (NEW EVENT)

An event to focus on the WOLF PACK (or Family) side of Halloween. Take a ride on a hay filled hayrack, play Halloween themed games, and enjoy the great outdoors during Howl-O-Ween Safari. Included in this "After Hours" event is dinner, a marshmallow roast and plenty of family friendly games for candies and prizes. 
 
Event is suitable for all ages. Come dressed up in your favorite character and join in the costume parade nightly at 7:00 p.m. VIP Passes available for early entry (5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.). Reservations are required.
 
Cost:  $20/person Wildlife Safari Park Member    /  $25/person Non-Member
VIP Pass:    $30/person Wildlife Safari Park Member    /  $35/person Non-Member (early entry starting at 5:00 p.m.)

Saturday, October 17 - Early Morning Owl Photography

Who says "Who Cooks For You"? or "why is it called a Screech Owl" or can you find a Snowy Owl in Nebraska?  Our Education Staff and photographer, Mike Benkis will help you answer theses questions and learn how to photograph owls and more.

Saturday, October 31 - Telescope & Prairie Skies - Hunter's Blue Moon   
 
Come celebrate Halloween at Wildlife Safari Park looking at the Blue Moon. Known as the 2nd full moon of the month, the Blue Moon will be high in the sky and named this year as the Hunter's Blue Moon!
 
We'll have our telescopes out so feel free to bring yours if you have one. Our Education Department will have fun activities for us to learn more interesting facts about the moon and some falls snacks for us to sample.  We might even have our fire pits out for roasting marshmallows and extra trick-or-treat bags.

Saturday, November 7 -  Sunset with Bison - Photography (18 yrs and Older)

(Rescheduled from April 4, 2020) 
Our Bison herd is roaming our pastures posing for perfect photos to be taken of them.  Learn from our photographer, Mike Benkis how to set-up the perfect photo.  We'll be posed on the deck of our new Bison Overlook.    
 
Cost:  Cost:  $25 per person member price / $30 per person non-member price (18 years old and older only)
Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm - This is an after-hours photography shot!

Nurture your young child's love for wildlife and the great outdoors with Wildlife Safari Park's newest Early Learning Kids Klub (E.L.K. Klub). The E.L.K.Klub uses the Park as a classroom to encourage young children ages 3 to 4 years old to investigate, play, and learn about Nebraska native wildlife through hands-on activities and exploration.

Programs are for children ages 3-4 years old. All classes are from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at our Education Base Camp near Wolf Woods and our Pawnee Creek Trailhead Parking Lot. Pre-registration and payment of $13 per child per session is required. An adult must accompany the participant. The registration cost covers one adult and one child. Prices reflect the discount member rate.
